‘HAPPIEST’, the Pro Bono group of SKC, performed Pro Bono activities using the SK Home Care Film DIY (Do It Yourself) Kit made with the window film of SKC. Pro Bono refers to a service provided by professionals using their professionalism and their dedication to the public interest without seeking compensation.

On November 1, thirty members of SKC attached window film at the ‘Dream-up House’, a community child care center located in Suwon, using the company’s new SK Home Care Film DIY Kit. After receiving training on how to use the SK Home Care Film DIY Kit from an expert, they cut out the film according to the size of the glass and attached it carefully to the windows of the house.

Window film can lower heating and cooling costs by blocking the heat and chill coming from the outside during summer and winter. In particular, the SK Home Care Film produced by SKC can block out heat by as much as 95%. In summer, the difference between the room temperature and the external temperature can be as much as 3~5℃. The window film can also reduce the discoloring of furniture with a UV blocking ratio of more than 99%. Despite such merits, the film was not popularized due to the difficulty of installing it experienced by general consumers.

In order to overcome such a barrier, SKC has developed the SK Home Care Film DIY Kit to enable general consumers to do the work themselves. Each kit comprises the exclusive window film, tools, and an instruction manual which also includes a QR code for video instruction.

In particular, the exclusive film is made for easy use by general users, allowing them to cut the film to the desired size easily by following the cutting lines arranged at intervals of 1cm; and the film is made thicker than existing films to prevent bending. Furthermore, the initial adhesive power has been set at a lower level to allow general consumers to attach the film in the desired location and direction.

SKC plans to continue its Pro Bono activities using the DIY Kit. Since the company launched ‘HAPPIEST’, the Pro Bono group, in 2018, SKC has conducted Pro Bono activities continuously, including the installation of SKC Window Film this year at five social welfare institutions located in Jongno-gu, Seoul.

A spokesperson for SKC said, “Starting with Suwon, where the Film Production HQ is located, we will expand our Pro Bono activities to other regions including Ulsan. We will also establish a system for enhancing sustainable social value by collecting all the core competences of our company for Pro Bono activities, including improvement of the DIY Kit, based on the user reviews written by members of our company.” [-The end-]
